Elevate your botanical collection with the Begonia ‘Pink Stardust’, a captivating cultivar that brings the magic of the cosmos into your home. Known for its mesmerizing, starlit foliage, this plant is a true jewel for collectors who appreciate fine details and artistic flair.

Botanical Profile & Family

The Begonia ‘Pink Stardust’ belongs to the Begoniaceae family, a diverse group of over 1,000 species of tropical and subtropical herbs. Like its relatives, it features the signature asymmetrical leaf base, a key diagnostic trait of the family. Its growth habit is compact and refined, making it ideal for both shelves and specialized displays.

Why It’s Special

• The Look: Its foliage is its masterpiece—dark, textured leaves accented with delicate, silvery-pink “stardust” spots that shimmer under light.

• Terrarium Royalty: Because of its moderate growth rate and love for stable environments, it is a premier choice for terrariums and paludariums. It brings a woodland, fairy-tale aesthetic to enclosed glass setups.

Care Essentials

• Lighting: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh, direct sun which can scorch its delicate, starry leaves. A spot near an east-facing window is usually perfect.

• Watering: Begonias prefer consistently moist but never soggy soil. Wait until the top 1–1.5 inches of your potting mix feel dry to the touch before watering. Use room-temperature water and avoid letting the plant sit in standing water to prevent root rot.

• Humidity: This plant loves high humidity (55–75%). It will be exceptionally happy in a terrarium or near a humidifier. If growing in an open room, group it with other plants to create a micro-climate.

• Nutrients: Feed with a balanced, high-quality liquid plant tonic during the growing season (spring to early autumn) at half-strength. JB Greens’ signature plant tonics are designed to provide the precise micronutrients this cultivar needs to maintain its vibrant spot coloration.

Potting & Repotting

• Potting Media: ‘Pink Stardust’ requires an airy, fast-draining substrate to keep its roots oxygenated. We highly recommend the premium potting media available at JB Greens, which is specifically blended to balance water retention with essential aeration.

• Repotting: Repot every 12–18 months, or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot only 1–2 inches wider than the previous one, as excess soil can hold too much moisture, which these plants dislike.

Identification & Features

• Key Traits: Look for asymmetrical leaves, a shrubby or cane-like growth habit, and the distinct pink-silver speckling.

• Flower: Under optimal light, you may be rewarded with clusters of delicate, pale pink blooms that add a soft contrast to the bold foliage.

Pro-Tips for JB Greens Customers

To ensure your ‘Pink Stardust’ thrives:

1. Avoid Misting: Instead of misting leaves, which can promote fungal growth, use a humidifier to maintain ambient humidity.

2. The JB Greens Advantage: Pair your plant with our curated potting media and plant tonics to ensure your Begonia receives the professional-grade care it deserves. Our products are formulated to support the complex, fibrous root systems that rare tropical Begonias rely on.
