Macodes Sandreyana x Limii

Macodes sanderiana x limii is a striking hybrid Jewel Orchid prized for its foliage. It features dark green, oval leaves with bold electric orange and green veining, often called “Lightning Leaves,” and produces spikes of small white, chocolate, or pale green flowers on 10-14 inch stalks .

Care Guide

Keep the plant in medium to high moisture, using a well-draining mix like sphagnum moss, fine bark, perlite, peat, or orchid bark with worm castings for aeration.
Water when the top inch of soil is dry, preferring rainwater or distilled water to avoid mineral buildup, and fertilize every 4-6 weeks with diluted balanced orchid fertilizer during growth.
Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to remove dust, prune yellowing foliage, and protect from snails or slugs, which can quickly damage it.

Growing Conditions

Thrives in warm to cool temperatures (65-75°F or 18-24°C) with 60-90% humidity, making terrariums or humidifiers ideal.
Provide low to medium indirect light, such as east/north-facing windows or under fluorescent lights; shade with vines or bromeliads if needed to prevent scorching.
Grow as a terrestrial understory plant in consistently moist but not soggy peat-based medium.

Adaptability

This hybrid adapts well to typical terrarium setups with stable humidity and lower light than many plants tolerate.
It handles moderate indoor conditions like east windows but may struggle with dry air, low oxygen at roots, or acclimation stress—improve with better aeration or soil-less mixes.reddit+2
