Scindapsis Mayari

The Scindapsus Mayari is a distinctive epiphytic vine recognized for its elegant, elongated, heart-shaped foliage. Its leaves feature a deep green base adorned with complex silver or grayish variegation, resulting in a shimmering, glossy appearance. As a vining cultivar, it is highly versatile and can be trained to climb supports, such as moss poles, or allowed to trail gracefully in hanging baskets.

Environmental Adaptability

This plant is valued for its ability to adapt to varying light conditions, though it performs best in bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate lower light levels, doing so often causes its unique variegation to fade or become less pronounced. It thrives in temperatures ranging from 18°C to 29°C (65°F to 85°F) and requires protection from cold drafts or sudden temperature shifts.

Essential Care Practices

Successful cultivation relies on maintaining a balance between moisture and drainage:

Watering: Water when the top 1 to 2 inches of the potting medium feel dry. Always use a well-draining soil mix to prevent waterlogging and the subsequent risk of root rot.
Humidity: The plant prefers higher humidity levels, ideally between 60% and 80%. You can support this by grouping it with other plants, utilizing a humidifier, or placing it on a pebble tray.
Maintenance: Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer once a month during the active growing seasons of spring and summer. Regular pruning of long vines encourages a bushier habit, and the cuttings can be propagated to create new plants.
