Cercestis mirabilis is a member of the larger plant family Araceae and members of this family are commonly known as aroids. Cercestis mirabilis was formerly known scientifically by a variety of scientific names including Nephthytis picturata, Rhektophyllum congense,and Rhektophyllum mirabile but all those are now synonyms of the accepted species name Cercestis mirabilis.
Cercestis mirabilis is a slow grower and the species is widely variable.
